FMA Mission Statement

“We are a membership driven organization developed to meet the needs of its members by successfully marketing and promoting the Freeport area to viable markets, and maximizing beneficial partnerships on a local, state, national and international level.”

As much as that statement says, the Freeport Merchants Association (FMA) is much more than our mission statement implies. While our goal is to facilitate the prosperity of our membership, which is quite common to marketing associations, our methods are indeed uncommon.

We firmly believe that we can serve the best interests of our members by serving the best interests of the Freeport community and our millions of annual visitors. To that end, we are constantly involved with a variety of organizations and efforts beyond our primary marketing duties. These efforts include historic preservation and community beautification among others.

We strive to represent the retail, lodging, dining, attraction and service entities of the Freeport area with equal fervor. We feel each type of business has an equal value and is vital to the success of our visitors experience and therefore the business community.

The FMA Visitor Guide is the largest single tourism publication in the state. Among other things, the FMA answers thousands of information phone calls, fulfills thousands of mail requests for maps and brochures, maintains an informational website with millions of annual hits, maintains both a year round and seasonal Information Center in Freeport and distributes the Visitor Guide to Information Centers around the state.

FMA represents its membership’s interests with the Town of Freeport and the state of Maine in areas such as signage, parking, traffic control, safety, public amenities, and so on.

FMA produces a number of annual events, such as the Fall in the Village Art Show, several town-wide Sales Events and the Sparkle Holiday Celebration, for the entertainment of residents and visitors alike.

Additionally, FMA is actively involved with membership in the Greater Portland Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the State of Maine Department of Tourism, as well as seeking out other unique marketing opportunities.

If you are a visitor, resident, or merchant member, our door is always open to you.

If you are a Freeport business and not yet a member, we invite you to come in as well. Find out why membership in the Freeport Merchants Association is the best investment you can make in your business!
